Your new role

The role will manage the operational aspects associated with Small Works projects being delivered within the Robertson Northern regional business, from acceptance to completion to ensure the demands of programme, profitability, safety and quality are met.  You will promote a harmonious working relationship between our project teams, the design teams and the Clients representatives to win repeat work.

 

What you'll do:

 

Preconstruction/Construction Phase

  • Liaise with the Customer, Clients and Design Team.
  • Provide leadership and support to the site teams – site managers, site supervisors, engineers, supervisors, foreman and support staff. Highlight any training needs for staff.
  • To develop, in conjunction with the Planner or Management, the main logic of the works programme and to monitor progress of the same weekly.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely. Assist project teams to develop Method Statements and Risk Assessments together with the Safety Plan and to observe the requirement of the CDM Regulations in the status of Principal Contractor.
  • Work closely with the Small Works Project Surveyor, providing the necessary support and input to report on projects current and projected financial status.
  • Prepare operational report for monthly Management report.
  • Prepare reports with Small Works Project Surveyor for monthly contract review meetings with Regional team and attend the meetings.
  • Prepare reports for monthly project site meetings with Clients and represent Robertson Northern.
  • Expedite information release from design team and ensure design team meetings are minuted.
  • Provide input into buildability, programme, methodology and oncosts during the feasibility and construction stages.
  • Manage correspondence for the projects under your management.
  • Report contractual risk situations to Regional team and mitigate them.
  • Monitor the quality of the works to hand over a snag free building. Ensure the requirements of the Robertson Management System (RMS) are implemented on all projects.
  • Assist in the selection of subcontractors and their scope of works.
  • All other duties as assigned to effectively carry out your role.

Safety, Health, Environment and Quality

  • Comply with the company SHEQ policies, procedures, safe systems or work, work instructions, and site rules as far as they apply to the role and function.
  • Ensure that staff under your control meets company standard in terms of SHEQ training and awareness.
  • Ensure new employees under your control receive company health and safety induction and are assessed in line with the company standards in terms of HSEQ.
  • Provide leadership in Health, Safety and Environmental issues, and in particular when on site.
  • Ensure projects are presented at all times in a way that underpins Robertson as a leading contractor in the provision of safe sites and quality welfare facilities.

What you'll need:

  • A key part of this role will be to manage small works opportunities from the recently won measured term contract.  It is desirable for the small works manager to have recent (within last 5 years) experience of delivering NHS projects and a full understanding of the protocols and specialist control measures that are required to deliver projects within the health care sector.
  • Relevant management experience of multiple sites in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of local construction market.
  • Ability to negotiate with sub-contractors, Designers and Clients.
  • Health and Safety Awareness.
  • Demonstrate ability to lead the construction and pre-construction teams.
