Your new role

Your role as a Technical/Design Manager will be to provide technical expertise and knowledge on timber frame and mass timber design. You will help facilitate a design department that enables effective fabrication and construction of timber structural frames, ensuring that all working processes and practices are undertaken safely, efficiently, and profitably and in accordance with the company’s management systems and procedures.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The role is fully accountable for the delivery of a competent and efficient design service, in accordance with company standards, systems and procedures, ensuring effective performance for the business from the following areas:

  • Provide technical support on developing and delivering closed panels
  • Develop new products in line with changing market requirements
  • Agreeing design (and production where appropriate) programmes and budgets and delivering against these
  • Sourcing and coordinating external structural engineering and design input on commercially attractive terms
  • Establishing and maintenance of a robust and reliable design processes, systems and tools making use of appropriate computer software
  • Managing the production of fabrication and construction drawings and schedules
  • Monitoring and maintaining internal and subcontract/supplier design competence & performance
  • Manage U value calculations where necessary
  • Manage the Design and Engineering of Mass timber products

 

DUTIES:

The Technical/Design Manager will oversee the Design department and will be part of the RTE Management Team. They will be required to provide leadership and communication to their team demonstrating the values and culture of the company. This will include the following:

  • Instil a “work safe” culture via action and words and ensure risk assessments and where appropriate method statements are in place and implemented
  • Lead and develop their team providing guidance and direction as required
  • Ensure that personnel are supported, and that competence is appropriate for task and continually developed
  • Manage the workload and ensure that the department works to the design budgets
  • Define and implement operating procedures, systems, and tools relevant to their areas of accountability
  • Deliver performance to agreed targets and KPI’s
  • Define, monitor, and accurately report performance metrics at agreed intervals in driving continual improvement
  • Actively seek continuous improvement to deliver “zero defects” in design
  • Ensure the awareness and implementation of and compliance with the Quality, Health & Safety and Human Resource Policies and Procedures, with any doubts being raised with your direct People Leader
