Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Location: University Hospital North Durham 

 

Working Hours: 38.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday 

Shifts: Early shift starting 6am, Late shift finishing 8pm - Alternating weeks 

Contract: Full-time, permanent 

Job title: Internally known as Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Your new role

About the role:

As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will work as part of a flexible team with continuing responsibility for the provision of a comprehensive, high quality hard FM service across the site. You will act as an Authorised Person / Responsible Officer in relation to specific maintenance responsibilities.You will will have a designated core skill, e.g. Mechanical and will ensure all maintenance tasks are completed to approved statutory standards. The post holder will be responsible for technical fault finding, diagnosis and repair on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment, e.g., heat generation, low pressure, heating systems, hot and cold-water services, drainage, air-conditioning etc.

 

Your key responsibilities include: 

  • To ensure that the Facilities are maintained to the levels specified in the Performance Standards of the contract
  • To undertake planned, responsive, and cyclical maintenance work as per the agreed programme
  • To undertake maintenance duties in such a manner as to support the objectives of the client and with respect for the dignity and privacy of the client teams
  • To ensure the safe operation of all plant, equipment, and tools
  • To operate at all times with safe working practices with due regard to Health and Safety Regulations, COSHH, Control of Infection, Waste Disposal etc in accordance with legislative requirements and policies and procedures of RFM.
  • To maintain asset histories, maintenance records and helpdesk reports, informing the RFM Mechanical Engineering Manager or sub-contractors of any follow up action that may be

About you:

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Minimum Industry recognised NVQ Level 3 trade qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, etc). Knowledge and experience in carrying out PPM, fault diagnostics and rectification on AHUs, pumps, pressure vessels, heating and cooling systems, hot and cold- water systems, and an understanding of BMS systems
  • ACOP Control of Legionella L8 / HSG274 trained
  • Experience as the Competent Person (CP) for HVAC, Pressure Systems, Medical Gas and Water disciplines within a Healthcare Environment.
  • Ability to work with multi-technology systems to effectively deliver PPM and Reactive tasks
  • Ability to carry out minor plumbing works
  • Health & Safety Certificate

The successful candidate will require an Enhanced DBS Check prior to starting in the job.
